Boards and Commissions

Most boards have members serving staggered two-year terms.  Terms start July 1st of every year.

Appointments are occasionally made mid-year to fill an open position.  Applications are always accepted.  Questions about serving on a board can be directed to the Office of the City Secretary.

Qualifications
Members of all boards and commissions must be:

  • Residents of the City of Sanger for at least six (6) months preceding the date of appointment.
  • Qualified voter; and
  • Not be an officer of the City nor any person who holds a compensated position with the City.

NOTE:  4A and 4B Board residency requirements and terms are specific to each board and are noted below.

Attendance at meetings is a requirement.  Any member missing three (3) consecutive meetings without prior notification shall be replaced by the City Council.

Members may serve up to three (3) consecutive two (2) year terms.  When the term limit is reached, a member can be appointed to another board immediately, and may apply for appointment on the same board after a one (1) year absence.

PLANNING AND ZONING (P&Z) COMMISSION AND BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
The P & Z Commission meets on the second Monday of each month and is composed of seven (7) members who receive, review and take appropriate action on all platting and subdivision proposals.  The Commission makes recommendations to the Council on proposed ordinance(s) and amendments to existing ordinances(s) regarding planning, zoning and environmental quality.


The Board of Adjustment meets as called and consists of seven (7) members serving two-year terms.  The Board has authority to hear appeals and variances to city regulations related to zoning and building and to determine if the Administrative Official has created an error in the interpretation and enforcement.

If appointed you will serve on both boards.  The Board of Adjustment typically convenes after the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting adjourns, when an agenda is scheduled.

 

LIBRARY BOARD
The Library Board consists of five (5) members and meets quarterly.  The Library Board serves as a consulting, advisory, supervisory body to study and recommend policies relating to the operation, promotion, enlargement, future planning and such other matters involving the city-owned library.  

 

PARKS AND RECREATION / KEEP SANGER BEAUTIFUL BOARD
The Parks and Recreation / Keep Sanger Beautiful Board consists of five (5) members and meets monthly on the second Tuesday of each month. The Parks and Recreation/Keep Sanger Beautiful Board serves as a consulting, advisory, and supervisory board to study and recommend policies relating to the operation, promotion, enlargement, future planning, and such other matters involving city parks as may be referred to by the City Council and relating to the operation and promotion of beautification efforts.  This board assists with different events and programming done within the parks system.

 

4A BOARD – THE SANGER INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
The Sanger Industrial Development Corporation (4A) consists of five (5) members, who may be appointed to three consecutive two (2) year terms. The 4A meets quarterly on an as needed basis on the 1st Tuesday of the Month at 1 p.m.  A director is not required to be a resident of the City of Sanger.    The Corporation is responsible for economic development initiatives that facilitate manufacturing and industrial activity.  

 

4B BOARD – THE SANGER DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
The Sanger Development Corporation (4B) consists of seven (7) members, who serve a two-year term and meet monthly on an as needed basis, on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. A Director must be a resident of the City of Sanger, a resident of the County in which the major part of the area of the City is located, or reside in a place that is within 10 miles of the City’s boundaries and is in a County bordering the County in which a major portion of the City is located.  The Corporation is responsible for quality of life improvements including economic development initiatives that will attract and retain primary employers.
